Are you visiting Kudat – if so, a trip to the Tip of Borneo is probably already on your list. The journey to this special place from the nearby town of Kudat is easy and relatively inexpensive to make.

The Tip of Borneo is 30km to the north of Kudat town and takes 40-minutes by car. At the Tip, there is plenty of free parking, a café, souvenir shop, and restrooms.

Taxi

If your budget allows, the easiest way to get from Kudat town to the Tip of Borneo is by taxi. The benefit of taking a taxi for this particular journey is that they will drop you off in the car park at the Tip of Borneo – only a few minutes walk to the actual Tip for those amazing views.

The cost will be 80 – 100 MYR. Negotiate – chances are you will easily be able to reduce the cost. An option worth considering if you’re in a small group and can share the cost.

Self-drive

If you already have a car that you’ve rented to explore Sabah – it will really benefit you here! Getting to the Tip of Borneo from Kudat town is signposted all the way and there is ample free parking at the Tip.

If you have your own car, consider checking out Kalampunian Beach on the way. It’s on the west coast as you head from Kudat town to the Tip of Borneo. Some spots on this long beach are untouched simply due to the lack of visitors to the area.

Shuttle service by lodges near the Tip of Borneo

Ok, this won’t get you to the Tip of Borneo in a straight journey – but it’s an option worth considering if you’re on a budget and plan to take your time exploring Kudat.

Most of the lodges located around Kalampunian Beach offer shuttle services from Kudat town to their own accommodation. Again, from Kudat town this is 30km and will take around 40 minutes.

The meeting point in Kudat town for most of the lodges near Kalampunian Beach is the Ria Hotel and pick-ups are around 1:00PM – 3:00PM.

For example, Tommy’s Place, a lodge on Kalampunian Beach, pick up from the Ria Hotel at 3:00PM and charge 20 MYR per person. They help guests arriving in a number of ways from other locations as well, so you need to contact them in advance to let them know you want a transfer from Kudat town on the day you visit.

From Kalampunian Beach it’s then 2km to the Tip of Borneo and will take 25-minutes if you walk.
