While it’s not on the same level as Tuscany or Bordeaux, there are probably more vineyards in the Cotswolds than you think.

These are a great way to experience the idyllic Cotswold countryside, and a vineyard tour is a great day out – of course, it has the added bonus of being a good excuse to sample some wine!

Woodchester Valley

Who are they?

They have 3 vineyards in the Stroud valleys – in Amberley, Woodchester, and Stonehouse. Grapes from 45 acres are handpicked to create still and sparkling wines in their winery at Woodchester farm.

Tours

Woodchester Valley offer friendly but informative tours, with a good selection of wines to taste! There are 2 tours to choose from which are run throughout the year.

Tour 1 – Classic vineyard and winery tour

  • £15 per person
  • Aperitif on arrival
  • Walk around at the Woodchester vineyard
  • Visit the winery and learn about the winemaking process
  • Tutored tasting experience (4 still wines and 1 sparkling)
  • Finishes in their farm shop where you can chat with their team
  • 1st May – 31st October (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
  • 1st November – 30th April (Wednesday, Friday, Saturday)

Tour 2 – Sparkling wine tour

  • £20 per person
  • Glass of sparkling wine when you arrive
  • Tour of their winery focusing on sparkling wine production
  • Tutored tasting (4 sparkling and 1 still wine)
  • Ends in the farm shop where you can meet the team
  • 1st May – 31st October (Thursday, Friday, Sunday)
  • 1st November – 30th April (Thursday, Friday)

Three Choirs

Who are they?

They have 75 acres of vines located in Gloucestershire. On site lodges are available which let you escape to this little slice of heaven for longer and really experience the Cotswolds – great for a romantic getaway!

Tours

You will need to book in advance, especially for Saturday tours. Gift vouchers are available for both of the tours below.

Tour 1 – Great all round option

Poulton Hill

Who are they?

This vineyard is close to Cirencester in the picturesque Cotswold countryside. 8,800 vines have been planted on this estate, and they produce up to 20,000 bottles of wine a year – including still wine, sparkling wine, and spirits!

Tours

Tours here are slightly more exclusive, they are strictly by appointment only and run on weekends. You will need to check their website and contact them in advance to book.
