Tegudon Tourism Village, near Kota Belud

Home to a picturesque suspension bridge with sweeping views out across paddy fields and of Mount Kinabalu.

Getting there

The bridge itself is within Tegudon Tourism Village and is a 2-hour drive from both Kota Kinabalu and Ranau. From nearby Kota Belud, it is just a 30-minute drive.

The bridge

Slightly neglected – a true rustic suspension bridge in the mountains. This bridge is visible when you arrive at Tegudon Tourism Village and from the camping area below.

A short walk up the hill to the right as you look at the bridge will take you to the entrance. As you walk across the bridge itself, you will have the river below and paddy fields on the other side of the bridge in front of you. To your right will be an unobstructed view of Mount Kinabalu – if it’s a clear day.

What else is here?

A great place to see Mount Kinabalu from – especially early in the morning. This peaceful camp site is a stone’s throw away from the river and has a number of small raised huts you can rent for an entire day or for the night.

There is plenty of space to relax and even BBQ equipment available! You can either take your own tent or rent one there. If you do stay here, be sure to wake up early to catch a glimpse of the mountain across the river at first light.

Behind Rex Café, Tampasak

A rural suspension bridge with multiple sections crossing a river and marsh land, with distant views of Mount Kinabalu – if you’re lucky.

Getting there

To find this suspension bridge, head for Rex Café in Tampasak. The bridge itself is behind the café. From Kota Kinabalu it’s around a 2-hour drive, and from Ranau it will take 1-hour . When you arrive, you’ll want to park off the main road to the right of Rex Café.

The bridge

To access the suspension bridge, walk past the right side of Rex Café and follow the path around to the right. The entrance to this bridge is overgrown – when you fight your way past this growth the bridge will open up in front of you.

The bridge is split in to multiple sections, this first section is the highest point and gives the best view of Mount Kinabalu – although it is some distance away. As you continue to make your way across the bridge, you’ll notice an old suspension bridge on your left as you pass over the marshy ground – this one is overgrown and near impossible to access now.

At the end of the bridge is a small graveyard. You can walk down and around the outside of it for more spectacular sweeping views of the surrounding paddy fields and hills.

The Café

Rex Café is a friendly local place serving food and drink. There are a number of western options on the menu here, including burgers and pasta. The perfect place to relax after your misleadingly long walk across the suspension bridge and back.

Rainforest Discovery Centre, Sepilok

A quaint suspension bridge over the lake at the Rainforest Discovery Centre in Sepilok surrounded by wildlife. This one has the benefit of being only a small part of your day out visiting this centre.

Getting there

The Rainforest Discovery Centre is a 5-minute drive and 25-minute walk from the popular Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre. The easiest way to get there from Sandakan town is to use a Grab – a Grab ride will cost 23 – 26 MYR and take 30-minutes.

See here for a detailed guide on getting from Sandakan to Sepilok!

The bridge

The bridge is located just inside the entrance to the centre on the opposite side of the lake. When you arrive, you can head left towards the information centre, the entrance to the bridge will be on your right. Or, you can head right when you arrive at the entrance towards the canopy walk, the entrance to the bridge will then be on your left.

What else is there to do here?

A visit to the Rainforest Discovery Centre will take at least half a day – if you have more time, spend longer getting lost here.

There is an information centre near the entrance to get you started, a great bird lookout area, and a never ending canopy walkway high up in the trees with breathtaking views.
