Packing cubes take up more space in your bag, weigh more, and force you to organise your clothes based on the size of the packing cubes you have.

So, other than costing you money – let’s look at what they actually bring to your life.

Extra weight

Every single thing in your bag is adding weight – why add more. Consider using plastic bags instead, yes it’s plastic, but chances are you probably have some lying around at home anyway.

Weight comparison

A specific and very fashionable 5-piece packing cube set from Amazon weighs 399 grams. An average plastic bag is 5.5 grams – that’s 27.5 grams for 5 plastic bags. So, 399 vs 27.5 grams!

Restrict how you pack

Packing cubes are fixed sizes. They restrict how you pack your own clothes and belongings – you will have to make your stuff fit in to these cubes. That’s not the way you want to pack!

Your average plastic bag comes in a variety of shapes and sizes. You can organise your bag exactly how you want!

Take up room

Packing cubes are physically bigger than thin plastic bags. The best things about using plastic bags is that you can compress, crush and bend them to any shape you want.

You can get compression packing cubes – but they are no-where near as flexible or versatile as having a few plastic bags in your bag when you’re on the road..
